Our Work Strategies

HAI's strength is enabling consumers, health care providers, public interest NGOs and policy makers to collaborate based on mutual interests and common positions to advocate for policy changes to improve health for all.

Partners work together to respond rapidly to priority issues by sharing information and expertise. Collaboration creates a broad base of support and ensures that the concerns of diverse communities are communicated at local, regional and international levels.

HAI Africa's key objective is to increase the ability of CSOs to work with consumers, particularly the poor and vulnerable, and as a result participate in and impact on the development of international and national policies, regulations and programmes that promote equitable access and appropriate use of essential medicines.

The organisation intends to do this through fulfilling the following objectives:

  1. Increasing the capacity of CSO partners to play a role in policymaking mechanisms related to access to medicines within the Collaboration Project with WHO
  2. Improving the capacity of HAI Africa network members to increase access to medicines through policy change
  3. Be a legitimate and strong representative international voice for African CSOs working for access to essential medicines at a community level

HAI Africa uses the following methods of work to achieve its objectives:

  1. Campaigns
  2. Information sharing
  3. Action-oriented research
  4. Workshops and training
  5. Advocacy
